Dust Collector Performance Through Preventive Maintenance
Dust Collector Performance Through Preventive Maintenance
The Challenge
Client Type: Industrial Manufacturing Facility
A long-time client scheduled their annual service inspection for a key shaker dust collection system supporting multiple machining operations. While the system had shown no major signs of failure, concerns had arisen regarding airflow efficiency and the integrity of the filter cleaning mechanism.
Additionally, the facility was preparing for an equipment upgrade, which would require duct system modifications. Kogi Environmental Solutions was brought in to inspect the system’s mechanical integrity, ensure operational safety, and provide proactive maintenance and recommendations ahead of upcoming machinery changes.
The Solution
Kogi technicians conducted a full-system inspection and cleaning, including:
Testing static pressure at system inlets and pick-up points.
Verifying the control panel and shaker cleaning cycle.
Inspecting all mechanical components, ductwork, and shaker system.
Replacing worn filter media (bag filters) and thoroughly cleaning the interior cabinet.
Identifying and correcting mechanical wear, including loose bolts on the shaker mechanism, which were reinforced with lock washers.
During the site visit, we discussed any changes, modifications, or upgrades needed to ensure the dust collector is prepared to meet current and future demands. The visit included an inspection of a new saw connection plan, noting ducting changes required for proper integration. Recommendations were made for quarterly inspections, annual filter cleaning, and maintenance of horizontal duct surfaces to reduce fire risk.
The Result
The dust collection system was confirmed to be in excellent condition, with enhanced airflow efficiency and reduced pressure load following filter replacement. Mechanical reliability was improved through minor adjustments, preventing potential wear-related failures in the shaker system. Key outcomes:
• Significant improvement in system performance via static pressure drop. • Prolonged filter life through proactive media replacement. • Enhanced mechanical reliability from targeted bolt reinforcement. • Clear roadmap provided for future duct system modifications and maintenance best practices.
This visit reinforced the value of preventive service and equipment assessments in maintaining peak operational efficiency, safety, and long-term asset value.
